Halibut
/ King Salmon Combo
May 1st - June 5th
During the early spring, Chinook Salmon
cruise our local beaches sniffing out the fresh water run off from our
local rivers-the rule is usually 16-24lbs. But 30+ is common and the
chance of catching a 50-60-or 70lb fish is still there!
During this time frame we offer an all
day trip that includes about 3 ˝-4 hrs. king trolling and 5-6 hrs.
fishing for the big barn doors!
This is a great time to fish for both
species!
Pacific
Halibut
June 5th
- September 5th
After
our king salmon run is over we offer a Halibut only trip specifically
going after the Big Barn Door Fatties! These trips are our mainstay
and yield a nearly 100% success rate! Yeah you heard me right! Your
going to come home with dinner! Not too many fisheries can boast their
abundance like our Cook Inlet Halibut fishery!
Halibut can range anywhere from 15lb-400lbs. While an average fish for
us is approximately 40lbs for the season. This is not an average fish
for our region rather a seasonal average for my boat alone.
There
is nothing typical about our Halibut fishing trips and the average
weight of the fish is constantly changing due to tide cycles, weather
and season. But most of my clients that fish with us for a few days or
more will usually have the chance to fight or witness a fellow angler
pinned to the rail by a giant flattie and at some point in their trip
get to see how accurate I am with my 357 Bang Stick.
Limit
2 per person per day any size.
Saltwater
Extravaganza
July 1st -
September 5th
These
are becoming our most popular trips! After the first of July we start
to fish for just about everything that swims!
This
is where we venture out into the abundant waters of the Gulf of
Alaska fishing rocky reefs for Giant Ling Cod and Yellow Eye Rockfish
(Red Snapper). Ling Cod are a very aggressive fish that preys and
ambushes smaller rock fishes, octopus, salmon, and even Halibut in
excess of 25lb! These monsters can grow in excess of 90lbs! Most trips
will see Lings in the 25-50lb class and sometimes see lings exceeding
65-70lbs. The current IGFA world record is 82lb 10oz. And was caught
aboard my brother Steve’s boat but that wont last for long cause I
plan on breaking it! Limit 2 per person per day over 35” in length.
Along
with the Lings will be “Giant Pacific Halibut” roaming the edges of
the reefs looking for lings and rockfish that loose their way! Also
giant Yellow Eye Rockfish! Most of these fish are in the 16 to 20lb.
Class but sometimes see them up to 26 and 28lbs. These fish are slow
growing and can grow in excess of 150years old. Limit one per person
per day. any size
Most
of these trips will yield limits of these 3 species but that’s not
all! We also get large black rockfish on our trips as well! And as the
season approaches about the third week in July thousands of silver and
pink salmon infest our waters as well! I know what your thinking??
Limits of Silver Salmon as well as Halibut, Lings and yellow
eyes?…… We don’t call it an extravaganza for nothing!
Limits 3 per person per day any size
Silver
Salmon Halibut Combos
Approx July 25th - August 25th
We
offer a combo run for Silver Salmon and Halibut when the silvers are
running
Silvers can show up in great numbers in the gulf and lower inlet as
soon as late July and run through the later part of August. These are
pound for pound the hardest fighting fish around! Averaging 8-10lbs
and large ones running about 14-15lbs the silver salmon is an exciting
fish to catch and excellent table fare!
Most
of these trips are similar to our spring King Salmon Halibut combos
only we head offshore to chase Muir, and Artic turns feeding on bait
fish chased up by hungry Silver and Pink Salmon
Limits 3 Silvers 6 Pinks per person per day
